THE HALF OF IT
Let's start this film off with some random Greek myth I have never heard of with a decent paper animation for a non-animated film. We continue with the ever popular trope of High School is hell and Nerds and teachers are friends how refreshing. Throw in some Chinese stereotypes an Industrious smart kid and boom a Film. What I always found interesting in American schools outside the amount of money that is spent on drama and or theatre and that ALL the cool kids sing like really?
Add in some self narration which is too much tell and not enough show. When I see the main character's dad you will see what the American dream can do to some people. With added quotes which adds to honestly this funny film about love that is filled with different types of love and the loss of a family member. Everyone will like and laugh at this film and remind them of how sad high school is...
On a personal note my favourite scene is the Graffiti scene it resonates with me, I hope it does with you and what the monkeys is the town's name can someone write it down and you know me by now I LOVE A MONTAGE!!! I hope you watch this film and maybe by the end of it you will smile because who doesn't like to smile.
REVIEW IN SPANISH
Esta es una película tan bonita, y muy cursi eso sí, así que si no son del tipo que le gustan las historias romántica y un poco lentas tal vez no sea para ustedes.
El concepto general de la historia es el de "almas gemelas" eso de la "media naranja" y todo lo demás, pero no en el sentido que se te está ocurriendo ahora mismo. Si existe una trasfondo amoroso, pero las almas gemelas terminan siendo dos amigos (que en una situación muy Cyrano de Bergerac, se terminan enamorado de la misma chica).
Ahora hablemos de mi parte favorita: los personajes. Todos los personajes tienen algo que los caracteriza: Ellie es tímida, inteligente, le gusta la música, y se preocupa por su papá; Paul es un idiota ¡pero es sumamente dulce!, le gusta cocinar, y está en el equipo de football americano del colegio aunque no es ni de cerca un jugador estelar; Aster es la chica linda de la que ambos están enamorados pero (y esto lo agradezco muchísimo) no es solo una cara bonita, le gustan el arte y la literatura, se siente atrapada en su vida ya planeada, y al final lo manda todo a la mierda para estudiar lo que le gusta.
El único personaje que se podría decir es plano es el novio de Aster, Trig (nombre más feo no le pudieron poner al pobre muchacho). Pero no me molesta, porque la idea es que sea un personaje plano, sin grandes aspiraciones ni deseos y que se siente cómodo con el rol predeterminado que le a tocado vivir en Squahamish, haciendo un contraste muy marcado con nuestros tres protagonistas.
